Personalize your Havaianas

Flip flops are one of the most basic footwear that we should have in our closet because of its comfortability and versatility. It is commonly used in the beach and during summer time but here in the Philippines, it's an all around foot wear.We usually go to the beach whenever the sun shows up so we can use our flip flops even if summer is already over. One of the well known and trusted brand of flip flops is Havaianas. It is durable and gives you the marshmallow like comfort. Aside from that, a lot of filipinos love to shop for a pair and even collect various designs and colors.

Knowing my taste and style, I am not so into any kind of flip flops but I do like comfortable and lightweight footwear so whenever I want to shop for a pair of durable and cute slippers, I'd go to the nearest Havaianas shop. Usually, my choices of wardrobe are too girly or more on skirts and classic smart casual side. Whenever I'm shifting from heels to flip flops, I always get this feeling that my substitute footwear of choice is wrong. Sad to say, I would just wear them in the beach and most of the time and it stays in my rack for stoarage. I pondered on how I can make my slippers pretty enough to sport it on any occassion and attire. I ended up with the concept of embellishing it with crystals. As a jewelry artist, embellishing shoes/ any footwear is not new to me but I am worried since I'm going to use thick beading wires, metal locks etc.  and it's rubber that we're talking about here not leather or plastic. Anyway, I'll never know until I try it and do the quality control analysis.

                               Materials Needed

1. Havaianas
2. Crystals (assorted)
3.Needle (Any size would do depending on the beading wire size but you can use the largest size available for hand sewing)
4.Beading wire (.45)
5. Glue gun
6. Glue stick

                                Skills Needed

1. Basic Sewing
2. Jewelry making /Designing

                               Procedure

1. Inspect the slippers. It should be in good condition meaning, it should be intact so it wont break when the needle will be used to sew wire and beads. Decide where and what part of the slipper you like to embellish.

2. Just like in jewelry designing, check the color combination of the stones that you like to use. Insert the beads in the beading wire according to your desired crystal/stone combination. You can use 2 strings/wire to make sure it wont easily break when the slipper gets wet or exposed to sun/heat. Put the lock in the end just like what we do in bracelets to keep it in place. Make sure its durable enough to withstand the friction/force applied in the foot area.

3. Apply the glue to the selected area of the slipper where  you like to ornament and immediately place the combination of crystals that you designed. To secure the crystals, use the needle. Insert the beading wire at the bottom hole of the needle and sew the beads in the rubber. Make sure you don't insert the needle in the edges of the rubber so it wont be easily destroyed. Aside from that, try to sew it in the thick parts of the slipper straps. Make sure to sew it properly for your design to last longer.

4. Put the metal locks and try to pull the crystals to test it's durability.

You can sew the beads one by one just make sure it looks alike on the other pair and you can manage to do it neatly but if not you can follow the steps mentioned above. If you like to use shells or quartz you are free to do so just learn how to secure them well and check if it doesn't affect the comfortability of the flip flops.
Sorry for my not so pretty feet

It has been months since I personalized my Havaianas and it is still in good condition. My slippers were exposed in salt water, rain and sunlight and so far it's as good as new. I do recommend Havaianas not only for withstanding water and sunlight but also its good quality of rubber considering I used thick beading wires and needles. Unleash your creative side in personalizing your slippers and for sure, you will be able to enjoy dressing up with your unique Havaianas in different weather conditions.

#ThisBody campaign= #LovemyImperfections :

Fall in love with yourself first , a famous advice to broken hearted men and women but it is also suited for broken souls being hurt by society standards and close minded people. We are all entitled to our own opinion regarding other people. We are all unique individuals and we have a characteristic that sets us apart form others like race, IQ, views and even size. If you don’t believe that plus size women should also be respected and acknowledged as beautiful individuals, I suggest that you should stop reading this post. Though you have a lot of valid points regarding health issues, always remember that not all big women are just sitting on a couch eating all day long . Actually this issue is not only limited to health but also allowing them to live their lives the way they want it. A lot of big women are being empowered since they know how to enrich themselves other than being vain and just taking care of themselves aesthetically.

Like everyone else, we just like to be free and happy. Lane Bryant’s #Thisbody  campaign has been helping a lot of plus size women express themselves.

My Curvy statement for this campaign is;“This body is worth the love and respect”

I might have a bigger body size than normal but there’s more to love and to appreciate. Other people can say whatever they want but I stand firm on my belief  that I am not less than a beautiful creation of God. Aside from that fact, I am like everybody else who wants to love other people and be loved back.

#LovemyImperfections

No one is perfect and I am fully aware that I have Imperfections and flaws but I have learned to love them. It has been a great struggle for me to understand and honestly, it really took some time. Upon thinking it over for a period of time, these imperfections made me who I am. It made me wiser and stronger. Yes I might be busty, 5 ft. in height which is classified as short nonetheless I am happy about myself. I might not please everyone because I can't avoid preposterous people who would laugh or insult me indirectly because I like to use dress designs that regular sized women wear but then in the end, it all comes down to the fact that I have one self to love further more, I don't need to listen to anyone's opinion regarding my self expression. Thanks Kat Galarosa for reminding me about the importance of loving myself. <3

Happy girls are the prettiest as said by Audrey Hepburn

Beautiful and confident women are starting to invade social media and blog posts. I am happy that we  are all starting to embrace the body size diversity. Gladly, curvy women are exposing how proud and happy they are with their curves thanks to Lane Bryant's plus size campaigns. Without fear and hesitation, I can enjoy going to the beach or strut my own creations wherever I want to. This is me and I absolutely love who I am without needing anyone's approval. Happiness is the root of radiating beauty from within. So throw all the negativity in the trash and spread the love and positivity.

#ThisBody + #LovemyImperfections = Happiness

Love yourself and everything will fall into its right place. Explore life and enjoy a carefree life.

CURVY STATEMENT: Create your own Masquerade ball look

From the renaissance up to the present, masquerade balls are one of the most exciting party themes at the same time it is quite challenging to prepare for this kind of event. We have been used with ball gowns and feathered masks. I would be glad to wear an enormous ball gown but deep  inside of me ,  something different from the usual is what I am aiming for . Two-piece formal gowns are all over Pinterest and Fashion magazine websites and my curiosity is bugging me if I can pull it off. Since I am on the curvy side, I would like to construct something unique with a touch of sexiness but still conservative. Considering the experience that I possess,  doubting my skills was the first thing that came into my mind because this project is far from the casual dress projects that I implemented. Time hasn't been friendly to me lately because of the work-related rush that I need to accomplish so I checked on the resources that I have and discovered heirlooms. My grandma left her silver body-con dress. Good thing, the party is Silver and Black themed (LUCKY ME!) From that piece, a tulle skirt came into my mind but not the typical tulle dress that different women use in their OOTD street fashion. I started to design a skirt that would expose the lower part of my body since the design of the dress in the upper part is a bit clothed moreover it would give a slight conservative look.

The Tulle Skirt

Since the mini dress is silver, I don't want it to look super metallic. This means I need to match it with a darker skirt so it would expose my curves more and flaunt the right assets to balance everything off. Unfortunately the tulle that was left in my stocked materials was color white considering the fact that I am running out of time, what I did was to buy a fabric dye and followed the instructions in the sachet.

Fabric coloring process

I boiled the water in an Aluminum cooking pan then immersed the cloth after 20 minutes. Next, open 3 sachets of  black fabric dye and pour it in the boiling water  then allow it to be absorbed by the cloth while being boiled. Add 3 tablespoons of salt and a let it boil for a few minutes more then let it dry.

Finished product
It didn't turn out as I expected but it is a good combination with  silver since it is a few shades darker

                                        Designing and Sewing the Skirt.

First and foremost , I have to be careful in cutting the tulle since I only have enough of it or else my look would be a disaster. Guided by my instincts, I got over the stress of cutting and attached the ribbon on the hem of the skirt. Sewing the body of the skirt has been hassle free and attaching the garter was easy breezy. Eventually, achieving the puffy open tulle skirt didn't give me any headache.

VOILA!!! MY TWO PIECE FORMAL DRESS IS DONE <3

                               My Sister's dress

This is an emergency formal gown project so I was able to put all the materials together. My sister's dress is quite similar with mine. We exposed the lower extremities to add some height.

We went to take a good shot of the dresses and I was at ease that somehow in my own opinion, we were able to pull it off.

Jeweled Masks

My sister and I made our own artsy crystal masks. My concept was all about having my own empire someday hence, I had this as an end product.
Made of Assorted genuine crystals and synthetic pearls

I won the best in mask award <3

My sister just wanted her mask to be inspired by royalties.

She used striking colors too and 100% genuine crystals
'

Having fun with our personalized masks

 Accessories

Our look won't be complete with the absence of my Jewels so I decided to pair a black Chandelier crystal neck piece  and my theme appropriate Silver-Black crystal wrist cuff with my Silver two-piece dress and my precious Pearl jewelry set with my sister's Black gown.

I am delighted with the result and was able to put all the pieces together. W enjoyed the rest of the  night with the celebrant.

Statement Jewelry Collection : Earth, Water, Wind and Fire - Elemental characteristics inspired jewelries

Happy New Year ! I'm really excited to start my year with series of designs inspired by the diversity of different emotions and inspiration.   It was never easy for me to understand how I can put all of my creations in one collection but nevertheless, I finally came up with the 4 elements . The universe is made out of the different elements and I believe that these elements also represent certain qualities that we posses as a human being furthermore , the different jewelry designs were inspired by the different qualities that I hold under each element.

WATER

The water is an element of peace, balance and emotional connectivity and the end product of my  creations have a deep emotional connectivity to what I feel about myself and towards other people.

                                 FERVOR Crystal Jewelry Set

This crystal jewelry set was made on set. I did not have enough time to thi of a design but one thing is for sure,  an elegant jewelry set should be made before the day ends. From the moment I figured what I wanted to do with my blue crystals , my excitement couldn't stop me from rushing all the tasks that I was doing just for me to start constructing the designed project plan in my mind.  There was a high intensity of creativity in my soul that time I was starting to put all the materials together that is why I named the jewelry set as FERVOR which is the water element characteristic that I hold. Under those cirsumstances, I finished the design in less than an hour. There is too much excitement and enthusiasm inside of me that sometimes I tend to be exhilarated when it comes to designing jewelries.

AIR

The air is an element of brilliance and curiosity. One thing that I couldn't deny is that I am curious and skeptical. Loquaciousness is another characteristic that is attached to air people and I unapologetically admit that I am.

                                ARGUS-EYED Crystal Jewelry Set

This clear crystal water element creation was named ARGUS-EYED necklace because I usually detect early signs of danger deep in my gut as has been noted, that is one very significant air quality that I have.

 EARTH

The earth element is a sign of discipline and regularity thus, earth people are focused and perfectionists, such qualities are must haves for artists. A part of me consists of a few earth personalities such as making sure my work of art is done properly,  loyalty to the chosen people I trust and love and more.

                              DESPISE Russian crystal Bangle

This crystal bangle represents a negative side of me which belongs to the earth element which is scornfulness although this may be true, I usually despise people who does not deserve respect. Bullying, body shaming, humiliation, harassment, inflicting pain to an animal or individual are some of the reasons why I disdain some individuals who choose to provoke and initiate any form of harm.

FIRE

The fire is a passionate, powerful and extreme element. Majority of my characteristics belongs to this element. I am a fire person, a Lioness born in mid August.

                            PUISSANT Wrist Cuff

This crystal wrist cuff is inspired by a dream empire that I have in mind. My future plans are vast and challenging yet I am positive that my throne is waiting for me somewhere out there in the right place and time. There's nothing wrong in visualizing your dreams right? No one can limit us but ourselves. The passion in my heart is like a fire burning and I will not stop until I get what I want. My zeal to success will lead me where I am destined.

Whatever element is dominant in our characteristics, we should make sure that we try to balance everything so we would do well in life. I genuinely express who I really am and I admit that I am far from perfect. Those imperfections, failures, hunger for success and drama provide the most meaningful inspiration in my creations.

Once again thank you for sparing your time reading my stories. I would be very excited to share more about my creativity. I can reproduce this jewelries for you just send an email @ curvystatements@gmail.com

Curvy Statement's best of 2015

2015 has been a great year for me. It's one hell of a ride  since it didn't start as I hoped but it was full of experiences and lessons.

1. One of the remarkable milestone in my life was the reformatting of my page from fatfashionologhist.blogspot.com - curvystatements. blogspot.com.  Originally, this page was for my DIY stuff and designs but then I came to realize that there's more to fashion, designs and arts. It was all about unleashing my spirit and I need to tell people more about my advocacy. It is to make all women feel that they are beautiful. We should have our own definition of being beautiful and each and every woman should celebrate their individuality.

2. The restoration of my pearls and being able to use them myself and of course, having the privilege of using them in fashion shoots.

3. Thank God for the gift of imagination and the ability to design and redesign clothes that fits me very well. You know my curves are not consistent.

4. Brainstormed on my very own Jewelry Brand:  Statement Jewelries. This was a skill I never thought would be acknowledged. It isn't big yet but one step at a time is fine with me. I have occasional clients and I consider myself blessed.

5. The greatest gift I have received this year was being given an opportunity to write. Thank you very much Miss Extra Sexy and of course my editor-in-chief whom I admire Alina Co-Calleja. It's an honor to write under the Beauty and Fashion section of The Philippine Online Chronicles http://thepoc.net/index.php/author/krivera/. When I was in high school, I buy and collect vogue  and even local fashion magazines because a huge part of me likes to be a part of a fashion magazine. I used to make my own magazine by cutting out the best pictures of gowns and dresses from the fashion section of newspapers and I construct brief captions below each photo. I never thought that this opportunity would come. Thank you ate Lorna! <3. Before, this was only a dream but now I still can't believe it LOL sorry (hahaha).

6. Went back to my mom's beautiful hometown, I  was able to appreciate places, spared some of my time to  reflect and I definitely learned a lot.

Thank you  for sparing some of your time to check my page. 2015 has been an awesome year for me. Hopefully, this year would be a lucky year for me! More blessings to come please! :))

I will be posting my Newest Jewelry collection in a few days.

Love lots!
