CURVY STATEMENT: Travelling in Style in the city of Smiles

TRAVEL  is all about the gorgeous feeling of teetering  in the unknown - anonymous. This was the exact feeling that I had when I landed in Silay airport. The only thing I had in my mind was to watch the famous Masskara parade and wonder if there’s more than that. I’m not much of a traveller but as I was able to discover that Bacolod is a nice city after all and knowing me, I’d really love to travel in style.  I felt accepted and respected as I paved my way through the different places in Bacolod. I was really surprised that they would look and smile at you even if you dress differently than them. It is indeed the city of smiles.

Masskara Festival 2015

The downtown is all adorned with masks and filled with festive beating of the  drums as the background music. It was like a street party and I'm excited to enjoy and have fun since it's my first time to experience this cool festival. Strolling around the plaza made me feel that negrenses have an artistic culture and that's one of the reasons why I enjoyed my vacation in Bacolod city. I was able to see different kind of Masskaras which reminds me so much of masquerade balls. According to some readings that I made, The masks were influenced by native Filipinos and the Masks of Venice Italy. They have incorporated feathers , glitters and so much color in the design of different masks that they  have been selling around the business center. I have thought of it as a nice inspiration for upcoming New Year costume parties. The masskaras play a very big role in making the festivities look livelier. The vibrance of  the masks lifts your  mood when you go around the streets of Bacolod. Without a doubt, the people of Bacolod knows how to accessorize the different masks very well and as a jewelry designer, I loved what I saw since I appreciate things that sparkle and glitter.

The Colorful Float Parade

The people started to flock in the business center in preparation for the float parade. I have my camera with me to save memorable moments but I have to admit that I focused on living in the moment than capturing moments but don’t get me wrong. I was able to take awesome photos from the float parade. The event itself, exceeded my expectations. It was more than just decorated automobiles. The mesmerizing led lights gave so much life and excitement to the audience.  It looks like the animated life size colorful characters in trucks. They were dancing to the beat of latino music  as the trucks were approaching the stage. The audience were also dancing which gave us the feel of partying in the streets.

I was in awe when I saw their costumes.  We really have this idea that Filipinos are conservative when it comes to clothing but I did enjoy the fashionable costumes during the float parade. I was able to see geometric prints and a lot of lively colors. They made us experience summer in October.  Their costumes were obviously very colorful. I thought they would use tights and leotards or recycling native resources but they have mixed fashion with technology and that is genius. The beautiful midriffs, corsets and mini tutu skirt costumes were full of adornments. It is one of the coolest festivals that fashionistas would enjoy. The masks were not simple masks that you see and buy in the market and they were able to make elegant head pieces too. I hope designers would get the chance to make it as an inspiration especially for different pageants. Negrenses flaunted their artistic side in this festival. Their work of art would represent the positivity of Filipinos.  Looking into those designs made me wonder if I can design accessories and head pieces inspired by the masskaras and you can now pattern your next head dress based on their recent costumes .  They were absolutely correct when they said that It’s not the usual masquerade.

Food

First and foremost the CHICKEN INASAL is really GOOD! REALLY REALLY GOOD!. You can find it near the plaza  or in some restaurants nearby. Nena’s inasal tastes so good in a way that it is juicy, smoked and not boiled. The natural flavor and spices really made it so tasty and yummy.

Second, we tried Dana’s Buko Cocktail. Their halo-halo in a buko shell tastes good. Just right for the warm weather that they have.

Third, La Paz Batchoy is one of the noodle soup recipe that I love from Bacolod. I tried one near the Plaza and  I can attest that it’s bombarded with ingredients like liver, chicharon, pork, chicken, spices and egg that makes it more palatable

Fourth, Bong Bong’s Pasalubong goods are the best! Big barquillos, piaya and many more sweets that will be packed for you in a very convenient way especially if you’re gonna travel back to manila.

Around Bacolod City

Since we only have limited time left, we went out to check the treasures of Bacolod City.

Mambukal

Hot spring, pool, falls and lake in one place. It’s a one stop shop of scenic places. Sad to say, I was not able to check the 7 falls because it was really raining so hard. Enjoy their large pool,  awesome hot spring and the lake where you could take your family and friends for picnic and boating. If you like to explore nature, this is the right place for you.

SM, Robinsons and Ayala mall is accessible so If you want to go shopping then you can immediately ask the people of Bacolod and rest assured that it’s easy to get there since jitneys and cabs are the mode of transportation.

Ruins

Last but not the least, my experience in Bacolod wouldn’t be complete without checking out the Ruins. It is one of the favorite shoot locations of our local movies and series. I can say that this place has a very vintage feel and I do recommend you to include this on your bucket list when it comes to blog or OOTD location shoots in other words this place is Instagram worthy. They have preserved this location well and I can say it is one of the most romantic places in Bacolod. I took advantage of the scenic view and I had a few shots taken which I would be proud to post in lookbook and blogspot. The fountain and building structure went well with my brimmed hat and mullet dress. I’m glad that my pictures have this Parisian/ French vibe. It’s like I’m a cast in a classic old movie. I fell in love with this romantic spot in Silay City.

Bacolod is a big city and I lack time to be able to stroll and to check all of the awesome places but nevertheless ,I really had fun travelling in the city of smiles and I can proudly say that you can travel in style here without feeling awkward. It has been a great experience for me to discover the creativity and artistic side of our fellow Filipinos and it will inspire us to show our capabilities. The most important part of travelling in this place is that it teaches us to be positive in life whatever challenges we might face. Looking back at history, this festival was founded to survive the difficulties that they are encountering economically and the MV Don Juan Tragedy. The city of smiles is a destination where you could appreciate a lot of things. Their art, their hospitable and friendly people and their positivity that radiates from within. I left Bacolod city with a smile and I will definitely comeback.

CURVY STATEMENT: Tough heart

                                            The Mood

Have you ever tried dressing up according to what you really feel? This is what I have done just yesterday. This week has not been very good to me. Went out of my comfort zone and dressed up like a frock girl.

When you're not in the mood to be funny, friendly and give them a smiling face because you are going through something melancholic. Yup this is where drama comes in but no need to emphasise on what came up. Maybe I just like to believe that I am strong than think of what makes my knees weak and tremble.

Choosing to be tough than helpless is the aura that I like to embody. As they say, life goes on. Time is the only key to let the open wound heal. Amidst the pain, I wouldn't like anyone to see how excruciating it is. I took a break from my sweet classy girl style to a fierce and gloomy aura.

To all the women who are going through any hardships at this time. My heart goes out to you. No one can deeply understand exactly how you're breaking and falling apart but in time we will all be blessed to be whole again.

                                               The Look

Boots: Forever21 Skirt:H&M Bag: Marks and Spencer

Honestly, I'm not so into boots  but I started to like ankle boots. This cut-out boots just look great with origami cut skirt and with a grey blazer. To complete the look, I finished it off by putting a dark red lippie. Mac Diva isn't a shade that I would automatically buy in the make up store but since I got a complement from a friend and from my sister. Let's say I was able to pull it off and I am glad that I did. Wearing the dark red shade  made me feel that I'm a part of Vampire Diaries or the Twilight saga. Nina Dobrev and  the Twilight female casts look good on it but I never entertained a chance that it would look good on me too. Normally, I'd stick to reds and pinks but this is a good try for me.

It's not going to rain forever. Sunshine and rainbows comes after a strong rain. If the hardest part is already over then we can help ourselves up from stumbling and face whatever is coming our way. Put up a smile on your face because better things are coming.

Thank you for spending some of your time to read my page. Always think big, think beautiful <3.

CURVY STATEMENT :Think big, Think Beautiful: A Response to Lane Bryant's #PlusisEqual Campaign

Have you seen the September issue of Vogue? Thank God for sending us an angel here on earth! Lane Bryant has been an inspiration to all of us. It's a cry for fashion equality. I am supporting their  pledge and this has also been my advocacy for years now. I am just a plus sized girl exploring my worth before but now I am proud to say that I am happy with what I've become. It really takes a courageous spirit to fight for equality in the fashion industry. People adore size 0 models and endorsers but the time has come that women of all sizes has to be celebrated and acknowledged in whatever aspect that we have.

We have to think BIG - Yes! Widen our horizons and and open our minds to possibilities.  We just can't let society dictate who or what kind of person should be accepted. Always remember that everyone is a work of art. We're all blessed with talents and capabilities which should be honed. Nurture those talents for us to prove that we can be productive and size and shape doesn't determine your worth. Be fearless in expressing your self. You don't owe anyone an explanation when it comes to your ideas and thoughts but always do it with responsibility.

Be fearless in expressing yourself <3

Think BEAUTIFUL - Aside from body positivity , Let us all redefine beauty. Vanity has been a fad and a lot of women strive for physical perfection which is equal to skinny or size 0 because media has been marketing that you have to be skinny to be acceptable or perceived as someone beautiful. NO beauty has to be a package deal. It should be comprised of physical wellness, intelligence and character.

Media has a lot of influence in the kind of society that  we have. It is also up to us if we would like to join the bandwagon so If you want to make this world a better place, I would start supporting women in every size, shape and race. We all deserve to be celebrated. Bullying, body shaming, harassment and discrimination should be condemned. We might have a long way to go but at least we're trying to get there.
We might have a long way to go but at least we're trying to get there. :)

Miss Lane Bryant,

Thank you very much for the awesome campaign that you have started. Like you, There are also some plus size warriors in the Philippines would like to redefine beauty standards and fight for fashion equality. We're still being challenged by society at this moment but I am hoping that one day, they will understand that we all want to be liberated and given a chance to shine. The progress that we've seen in Vogue has been an eye opener to women around the world. You are an inspiration and I personally give my 100 percent support in your campaigns. It uplifts the spirits of women  who are victims of the society that they are living in. We're going to work hand in hand for this advocacy to finally be acknowledged.

                           Sincerely,

                              LOISELLE
                       Plus Size Advocate  :)

Let us spread love and happiness. No judgements and shaming. Allow people to live their own lives and just be guided with what is good and bad for all of us.  We just have to keep moving forward :)
We have to keep moving forward :)

Statement Jewelries by Loiselle - A Jewelry collection that tells different stories

It never crossed my mind that I have a skill in making jewelries until my dad's friend who shouldn't be named as requested (lol) is a blessing in disguise. She gave me assorted stones that I could use to make jewelries then VOILA! To my surprise, I already enjoyed creating simple pieces and I commend her for teaching me the basics and it was up to me to research on designs and contemplate my own. TITA I know how humble you are and I am grateful to have met you because I will never discover this part of me if not because of you. Thank you very much!

Curvy Statements is all about a Curvy Girl's way of expressing her self in different mediums which includes: writing, art through dressing up and my favorite which is jewelry making.  It isn't just an ordinary way to make jewelries to earn money or gain profit but also a way of expressing myself. Instead of simply naming it as my collection , I wanted it to be called STATEMENT JEWELRIES.

                            MY STATEMENT JEWELRIES

Aside from combining different stones that looks good together, I discovered that it isn't that easy to make statement jewelries. Incorporation of several emotional factors are needed for me to be able to construct a good piece. First and foremost I should be in a very good and motivating mood to work and another important aspect in my jewelry designing is a very interesting idea or project design that I have brainstormed for some time. The materials should be catchy and should match the inspiration that I have in mind. As I am brainstorming  how to combine different stones and  all the materials to be able construct the whole piece, the story of each collection comes in. Each design tells a story of my journey that I would like to share in a very artistic way. All of my jewelries have emotional connection and inspiration which guides me in the whole process of jewelry designing. In general, I can say that my creations are not an ordinary work of art but holds a big part of my heart and soul.

Life stories will be shared soon and you can access it through instagram, tumblr, blogspot and etsy. I hope you would try to take your time to check on the different designs. Previous collections would be posted there too plus my holiday glamour collection which will be posted soon and available on hand.

CURVY STATEMENT: You can never be too old to be young - Boho - Amazonian - Glam Vibe @ 28

                  CURVY AND PROUD @ 28

For more than 2 decades of my life, It has been a struggle for me to be happy with myself and now I can say that I am happy and proud of what I've become. On my 28th year, I was able to understand what I have been fighting for. It is not ONLY about calling everyone to accept and allowing  plus size women or big women to be labeled as someone who could also be physically  beautiful but acknowledging that there's more to love about each and every woman of different age , color shape and size. My journey in this advocacy has never been easy especially with the kind of society that I am living in but I will continue to stand firm on my ground. I was able to establish a good relationship with myself through time and discovered what I can do for my self and the most important discovery that I had were the things that I can do for other people. I would like to thank everyone who respected and supported me in my journey, who believed in my abilities and talents even if there were times that I thought of giving up. More adventures and challenges are coming and I am more than ready to face them.

BOHO VIBE

Ever since, I was never a fan of Bohemian fashion because I believed that I wont look good on it or I just can't make it work or even fit my personality. Surprisingly, I tried to jazz up my grand ma's old blue shirt dress. Yes! Another cut - out design, it worth a try to take a calculated risk by baring my shoulders. Knowing my body type very well, the broad shoulders that I have which I got from my mom would never really look good on any outfit that would expose it because it would be unflattering. There seems to be a change of heart and a small belief that I could pull it off somehow .

      THE DIY BOHO DRESS

For my 28th birthday, I decided to become a red head since I fell in love with missdeadlyred ! Check her instagram account! then I altered and redesigned my lola's dress to preserve and make it a part of my dress project collection. A few changes were made in the dress but I didn't overhaul it.(It will always be my lola's). I just added a few details to personalize and accentuate the dress. The shoulder area was minimally exposed but the neck line was patterned in a Y shape form and the back would be almost a racer back type of design but more chic rather than the sporty side. When it comes to the length, I met with my grand ma's taste HALF WAY! (hahahaha) Again,  I went with the hi-lo style. No alterations made in the waist area so it looks like a straight dress which would put my look in danger since I am busty. Straight dresses makes me look like a box or would widen my body shape but I was just inspired by the straight yellow dress that I saw on lookbook and I would love to have one that looks good on me so I tried it on this dress project.

ACCESSORIES

A curvy statement post could never be complete without accessories. Aside from making dresses, accentuating the look with the help of the right pair of shoes and the right jewelry that will make the whole outfit shine!
Zanotti Gladiators <3

This time, I ditched wearing heels and opted an embellished pair of gladiator sandals. It looks amazonian but mixing the amazonian - bohemian- glam vibe worked so far.

JEWELS

GLAMOUR COLLECTION SET 1

Sparkling colorful jewels were designed as a set but not really boho inspired. The colors were carefully picked to match the color of the dress. The reflection and contrast of the jewels were considered in the color combination and also to  complement the dress. The photos below would give a closer look and for you to be able to observe the details of each piece.

     GRANDEUR  CRYSTAL BANGLE

Details: Made out of Russian beads from India and Assorted blue and  large clear crystals formed through metal manipulation and purely handcrafted.

HANGING EMGOLD EARRINGS

Details: Materials are Russian beads and crystals. The earrings were handcrafted ; bead weaving and metal manipulation

HEADBAND

Details: Made out of Russian beads and small crystals.

This is the first time that I made a head dress or headpiece
and it went well when matched with the earring and bangle.

Thank you for sparing some of your time to check my page. They said 28 is the turning point of a woman where she is officially declared as OLD but for me, I will never lose the part where I keep a young woman's heart inside of me. It's just a number right? No pressure ! Just keep on moving forward! Another curvy statement that I wanna live by. So once again thank you and don't forget to THINK BIG THINK BEAUTIFUL!

CURVY STATEMENT : FAT FAT FAT!!!!!! - Bullying, judgements plus altered body image perception

Before anything else I just wanted to say that I am pro healthy lifestyle and not tolerating obesity or saying that it is just right but do something about it. We should encourage healthy and balanced diet and exercise.

                                               FAT

Based on Merriam Webster  it is having extra flesh on your body, having a full rounded form or unusually wide or thick. Fat is an adjective.

QUESTION: IF YOU WERE CALLED FAT WOULD YOU GET ANGRY ?

Well for some, they might get offended but that might be true. For some, they are aware of it and has accepted it with open arms. Reality bites and in my case I'm already used to it. I don't even get mad but maybe it will depend on how they deliver it. Fat is a description same with small, petite. tall, wide etc. There is nothing wrong with it. But calling you names like instead of calling you with your first and last name they address you with the name FAT through confrontation or at your back even if you're not acquainted with them is a form of insult. Would we allow them to do that? Friends do that but aside from your closest friends it became rampant that bullying is acceptable just because it's true? It already became socially acceptable in the neighborhood and schools. Again this is not tolerating fat or obese people but this is a demand for RESPECT. Lately, I encountered an argument with college students regarding being called fat accompanied with the word UGLY LAZY and NO DISCIPLINE.

Fat could mean big , wide, huge but not UGLY and no one has the right to associate us with animals like pigs because we are not animals but humans too. We have the same rights and basic needs. An amateur model who was once overweight called me PIG. "Yung baboy na yon di naman talaga siya magaling" Maybe I'm not a good designer yet but I am not a pig. I'm human so I deserve to be called by my first name. How was he raised? Well I know manners can't be bought and it will say more about him than me. Just because they're in the fashion industry and size 0 is in that doesn't give them any right to disrespect people. Growing  up as a busty plus size teenager, it was difficult for me to present myself. There are countless girls and boys who bully me and got used to it and worse is that they harass you sexually. I admit, it is really difficult to deal with it especially when it comes to self esteem. Good thing about me is that I know how to comfort and defend myself but how about those ones who would rather stay at home and hate the world? How about those who doesn't know how to lift themselves up? It could wipe out all the positivity in them. They could end up having inferiority complex. For more information, you can check on Alfred Alder's point on inferiority complex and Poor adolescent wellness continues till adulthood. (Caspi & Elder, 1988; Pajer, model of wellness, grounded in Adlerian theory)

Bullies have no idea how it could affect their victims and worse is that it can affect them their entire lives. Awareness about suicide and social withdrawal is at times caused by bad experiences in bullying. Let's save those who are traumatized, and future generations. Who knows how weak a person is especially pure hearted ones who has lost hope in humanity just because of a bad experience. I would just like to help build themselves up again. Teens are mostly affected since they experience peer pressure and they are beginning to discover themselves in this important stage of their life. Please let us not break them. I'm calling everyone to help us stop this.

Yes, people have preferences and we respect if you don't like big or fat people so I hope you do the same for us. Stop being judgemental because you don't know each and everyone's battle especially PCOS warriors. It's a hormonal condition where losing weight is very challenging. Some are taking steroids because of medical conditions and etc. You have to be open minded in these special cases. Honestly, we don't know if you're doing something about it or not. It will always be their decision. Just don't hit them with conclusions that are unfair for them. Yes, it is unhealthy but it doesn't mean that you should join anyone who bullies plus size men and women. Education has a big role in enlightening parents on how they raise their kids to avoid bullying and avoid this as they grow older. It could help rebuild a better society.

HELLO BIG BEAUTIFUL WOMAN :)

Photo from micdotcom.tumblr.com

The models or Victoria's Secret Angels are size 0. They're hot and beautiful and that is because of the way media has imposed what beauty is. Redefining beauty would be a better solution in this case. Beauty should be limited to whatever size they want. Let every woman of different shape and size own it. No one has the right to belittle anyone and you should not give them the power to do that. No one should decide if you're beautiful or not except you. I suggest that you claim it each and everyday of your life. Is beauty limited to physical appearance? Of course not! You know that I guess.

You have more than enough reasons to say HELLO BEAUTIFUL in front of the mirror. Keep the positivity within your body. You have a purpose in life, make other people happy. Let them feel that love that you can offer. Love and care for yourself physically and your well being. They will eventually see that they have so much to love about you. Forget bad experiences or let it inspire you to be a better person each day.

THINK BIG, THINK BEAUTIFUL

                                   What does this mean?

Think Big - Be open minded and to change. Educate yourself on how to be a better person. Big is a description but not something which is negative. Be skeptical and critical. Appreciate creativity and different abilities.

Think beautiful-  Bare in mind that BIG is also beautiful. Beauty belongs to each and every creation that God has made. Do not limit beauty to physical appearance but redefine it holistically.

I'm sending my love to all of you. I hope you help us on this. Thank you once again for taking your time to read my page. <3

 * The photos are not mine. I just found it and their sources on Pinterest

I will be posting my next projects with full of inspiration soon. Thank you! :)

CURVY STATEMENT: Sparkles and Colors - Jewelry Designs Summer of 2015

My brainstorming has lead me to these 3 wonderful pieces. For me, summer is all about radiant colors so I enjoyed playing with shades and mixing colors. I admit that I had limited resources and a few barriers in making designs this summer of 2015 but still thankful to have created pieces out of love.

                                                    MICHELLE'S NECKLACE

This anklet and necklace set was made for a client's request. She used this on her  son's birthday beach party. Since her outfit was very plain and relaxed. I chose a combination of 2 matte colors (Yellow and Orange) then matched with a sparkling emerald green colored Russian stones. The heart in the middle was constructed through bead weaving. Over all, the neck piece is a semi choker / Chandelier, 100 percent Russian Swarovsky . It turned out as a statement and  she was very happy about the custom made jewelries made for her.

This is a sample on how the necklace can be matched in casual girly outfits aside from maxi dresses in the beach or with floral or plain circle skirts which are a fad nowadays. This would also look good in smart casual or business attires but keep in mind that it will always depend on the colors that you will choose to wear.

                                            PENELOPE'S CHANDELIER

Another bib chandelier necklace that I can match with my floral and plain dresses this summer. The water blue colored Swarovsky stones matched with matte yellow and a few orange beads made it more suitable for the summer season.

                                                                     ARIELLE'S CHOKER

The glamour piece of my summer collection. This can be used in formal occasions. The Pyramid design in the middle of the choker are made of Emerald colored Russian Swarovsky stones. In my own opinion, Pink and Green is a lovely combination . It's kind of minimalist but elegant. Arielle's Choker could be worn in summer soirees. What do you think?

If you are interested in any of the accessories that I made, you can contact me through e-mail : fatfashionologhist@yahoo.com or my phone number +639774090032 or you can inquire in the comment box below.

Thank you very much!
